Mission Sustainability

The use of drinking water for toilet flushing is not only a waste of precious water, moreover it is a waste of energy, since every drop of water needs to be pumped.
In order to avoid this dissipation we designed a special toilet seat for a so called urine diversion dry toilet. This toilet principle works perfectly without water and offers moreover the reuse of resources and nutrients.
We took this toilet style to Uganda, one of the poorest countries worldwide, where water and energy are very limited. The response of the local users was amazing and it was pretty easy to show them how to make such toilet seats themselves. The first Ugandan version is now used in Arua in an office. This pilot unit already raised the local awareness and the demand for such sustainable solutions.
